Strangers Again

From that first stolen look,
To that last meaningful kiss.
We are strangers again,
There is no denying this.

From the castles we built in the air,
To dreams we dared to together dream.
We are strangers again,
With nothing to redeem.

Our paths were meant to cross,
Though our time together, short lived.
We are strangers again,
Goodbyes we have bid.

Going away our ways,
With a keepsake memory.
We are strangers again,
Now with a common history.

From loud confessions of affection,
To silent reminiscence, so surreal.
We are strangers again,
This time, it is real.

Nostalgia

Nostalgia laden
as I wander
through passages
of you and me
I chance upon these
wondrous
intricate bits
Like footprints
on the sands of time
Pieces of you
my memories
always manage to find
That sliver of heart
you showed me
while we danced
Or that remnant of soul
I found hidden
in your favorite song
Those little glimpses of dreams
I saw in your eyes
Or the depth of your mind
that I could never have enough
And as I amble
a little more
It is that evening
and there we are
hands intertwined
our first sunset
Peaceful
Sharing Silences
Wandering through passages
You and me
Nostalgic.

Reach

Desires,
For the unreachable.
Feelings,
Unsaid, unrecognized.
Views,
Of the not so obvious.
Thoughts,
On taming the chaos.
Messages,
To the ones not around.
Dreams,
For a future chance.
Decisions,
Of life, on life, on hold.

Words,
Pouring out the inside.
One poem at a time.
This is me,
Trying to reach you.

Sunshine

Sun-kissed dreams,
Glazed by the light.
Like daffodils,
Happy and bright.
Sunny smiles,
Hold your hand, when you are blue.
Take you away from the sorrow,
To return home new.

Sprinkle of laughter,
A dash of spring,
Change in the weather,
But happiness, it does always bring.
A spirit full of joy,
Rekindled hope.
The spark still burns,
A will strengthened to cope.

What was once a void,
Brims with life anew.
A pain felt by many,
Lived only by a few.
You still shine, still sparkle,
Our hearts wonder how.
Sunshine all around,
Within us, you are now.

PS: Dear sis, your light lives on and hoping to keep it going through these words.

Whole

The thing about sadness, grief, pain
Is that even in your moment of brokenness,
it gives you ways to become whole.

As you evaluate your life,
vastly different
from the way you imagined it to be.
That broken ankle begins to follow the beat,
Your shaken knees begin to recognize the rhythm.
A new rhythm,
That makes you move instead of cringe with pain,
your waist starts to twist and twirl,
in a way you don’t recognize.
Your hands and shoulder follow suit,
As they rise up with a little shimmy of their own
And your cracked lips break into a smile,
as you recognize the bits and pieces,
they left you as memories.

Memories,
That not only seal,
But also heal the scars and marks
the void left on your body,
and finally you feel that bob in your head.
That is when you know your heart is still whole.

PS: Sis ~ As I continue to gather pieces of that the heart refuses to beat without, all those pieces that will always belong to you. Thank you for keeping me whole.

Dispensable

All rise with the sun,
All fade into the night.
All the lives that matter,
Who gave you the right to decide?
This path that we walk on,
Is open to all,
That is our right.
When did we lose our freedom?
When did we lose our sight?

This simple act of living,
Blurred by colors,
With no voice.
A life is gone,
Once again.
Taken,
By their choice.

Another unfortunate moment,
When the grim truth is told.
While we search and search for answers,
The lost ones, we can never hold.
Time has passed, time and again,
With a story – unacceptable.
Another truth,
Yet another reminder,
No life is dispensable.

Becoming

It comes in waves,
This tsunami of emotions.
An anxious eruption.
Triggering my answers,
Damaging my questions,
Disturbing my peace,
Hurting my existence.

It stays for a while,
This urge to give up,
This will to go on,
This yearning to be needed,
This desire to belong,
Wave after wave,
A tempest inside.

I breathe, outside.
Free as a bird,
Silent as the ocean,
Calm as the night.
Merging,
Evolving,
Becoming.
Here I am.

Unapologetic

She refused
to carry the weight,
Of their expectation.
You could see it in her eyes,
She thrived,
Owed no one any explanation.
Her smiles were fearless,
Uncaged,
Like the birds in the free sky.
Rebellious wings,
Her own rules,
She was always flying high.

Wildly outspoken,
They loved her heart.
That had nothing to hide.
Untamed, Unfettered,
Her life,
She lived with a spirited pride.
Her strength,
Came from within,
She left a mark on their mind.
Unapologetic, fiercely real.
She was, and still is,
The one and only, of her kind.

~ Dedicated to my little sister. My one and only. My one of a kind ~

Bury Me

They came
to collect
All those remnants
Of you,
The only ones
I own now.

All those pieces
of you,
The ones that
Are a part
of me now.

Perhaps, they can
bury me too,
when they return
you to the
earth.

Without you,
I am already
dead inside.

Fairy Tale

Happily ever after,
You and me, would be, they had said.
A hand to hold,
Steps, side by side,
Partners for the road ahead.

I had your back,
And you had mine.
Our story - a fantasy,
Less magical,
More reality,
Perhaps that was a sign.

I didn’t notice,
As our dreams took flight.
You wandered a different path,
And though I stayed behind,
Something felt innately right.

They didn’t tell us,
Real forever’s come with only so much rhyme.
Certainty becomes distant,
Love, a fragment of the mind.
Ours was no fairy tale,
They begin with 'Once upon a time'.

Silence

There is a lull at the moment.
A silence,
Like one I’ve never felt before.
This silence talks,
It tells me her stories.
This silence travels,
It takes me back in time,
All those times with her.
This silence screams,
It screams with me.
As I vent my pain away,
As I relive my memories with her,
This silence isn’t silent at all.
I wonder why it appears so quiet,
When it brings out the storm in me.

Zeal

A rollercoaster,
They said, it was.
Strapped in, no out,
There was just no pause.
The ups were bright,
They were, for everyone.
But when the downs came around,
Out went all the fun.

You listened to them,
Thinking you’ll never be there.
But soon you find yourself,
Screaming, with hands up in the air.
It moves so fast,
Speedy turns that creep up from behind.
Your head is upside down,
How did you end up in this bind?

Perhaps in that motion,
You break a bone or heart or two.
Locked in now, you heal yourself,
This ride is a part of you.
You keep on moving,
With zeal, through all the strife.
No option, but to ride along,
This rollercoaster called life.

Yellow

If you saw her you could tell,
Sunshine was her color,
She wore the sun well.
Eyes so bright, pierced right through,
With her around,
You could never feel blue.

Life was on her side.
Her sunny smiles,
Spread far and wide.
A dose of happiness, unbound,
With her near,
Laughter was always around.

So now on days uncomfortably mellow,
I think of her,
Sunshine and yellow.
And even though, she isn’t near,
As long as the sun shines,
I know she is here.

Xerox

She sat there with a box,
Her treasure trove -
His things.
It had been a while,
Deep down, she sighed,
Oh, how reality stings.

So much of him, she found,
And realized,
All was not lost.
His radiant smile, now on her,
A happy past, she wouldn’t change,
At any cost.

It was that old wedding photograph,
Grainy, discolored,
Just a paper - xerox copy.
Brought back all her smiles,
Her memories,
Now a little choppy.

I watched, as she lit up,
Grandpa –
Still her hope and light.
Gone a long time,
But still with her,
In this piece of black and white.

We

I stay away,
And wonder, how?
Perhaps a new superpower,
To live in the now.
Unplanned plans,
A change in direction.
Once our path,
Now separated, to perfection.

Wasn’t meant to be, I agree,
When life tells me, I told you so.
Did it warn me before?
Young and lost, I didn't know.
Maybe it was that feeling,
I still cant forget.
Those days together,
Not something I regret.

I do believe, now,
That time plays a role.
I may have been lost,
But I was always whole.
You preferred you,
You before me.
Even when together,
You and I, were never a “We”.

Visionary

He saw her that morning,
As the sun came along.
On a cold winter’s day,
She felt like a summer song.
He knew right then,
Somehow he was sure.
She was the love of his life,
There’s nothing he wanted more.

Everyday for her,
He’d wait.
She’d come to the window,
Never late.
And finally,
When their eyes met,
She felt a connection,
She couldn’t forget.

Her radiant smile,
Made his heart skip a beat.
Their little romance,
Had taken seed.
From stealing glances,
To holding hands.
They were together,
Making life plans.

Never a visionary,
But he saw this one through.
Makes me believe,
And maybe you will too.
Perhaps true love does come along.
You’ll know.
If on a cold winter’s day,
They feel like a summer song.

Utopia

A beautiful composition,
It is coming together.
I sit here reeling in my thought,
A pen in hand, a feeling,
and a notebook bound in leather.

In an ideal world,
These would be so easy to find,
Free of rules,
Thoughts would flow in,
Words wouldn’t just tease my mind,

But I continue writing,
There is so much to say.
Hoping to find utopia,
My world of perfect words,
I am getting closer every day.

The night continues breathing,
And slowly, I start to see.
My words at large - unbound, unrestricted.
This little diary is my perfect world.
No where else I'd rather be.

Tomorrow

I wake up to a different world,
Every day the story changes.
Do I even remember it all?
My interactions,
All those exchanges.

I retain enough to soothe my mind,
Discussions with the stars at night.
And when the sun hides the moon away,
I have unanswered questions,
Glaring at the morning light.

Do I sleep peacefully, they ask?
Chaos already churning inside my head.
Uncertainty - forecast of the future,
How can I rest in peace?
When I know not what lies ahead.

The world I leave behind each night,
Is a stranger I will never see.
How do I close my eyes in peace?
If I don’t know when tomorrow comes,
Will I remain me?

Serendipity

I held my heart,
I held it tight.
We met by chance,
But it sure felt right.
So many feelings,
An emotional parade.
Even when you went away,
A part of you stayed.

Sometimes, even now, your name,
Makes my heart skip a beat.
I tell it to slow down,
But it goes on and on, on repeat.
I am amazed how it still holds your rhyme,
I wonder how it still makes me smile.
I sit here thinking of you,
I wish you would have stayed awhile.

But alas, sometimes, you chance upon your story,
Create memories, that are forever to last.
Some miracles, some just a chance of luck,
And some make your heart beat fast.
All these senses, feelings and emotions,
All these marvels that we see.
This beautiful life that we live every day,
If it isn’t serendipity, what else could it be?

Rumor

It started quietly,
Soon the rain made its way.
Lightning and thunder,
A perfect indoors day.
They had warned me.
These storms, if they stay.
Slowly, very slowly,
They weather us away.

You and I, I thought,
Had weathered many a storm.
We were safe, we would make it through,
We were different from the norm.
But what I believed,
And what your story really was.
The truth of your lies,
There was no remorse.

You marched a different step,
I walked a different line.
You wanted to hold a hand,
It was not mine.
Once a rumor,
Until it was true.
Somewhere in between,
I lost you.
